Governor John Chiesa

John Chiesa was born in Orono, Maine and was raised in Medford, Massachusetts. He started his association with Kiwanis as a Key Clubber, as a sophomore at Medford High School, and served as Vice President.

He began studies at Boston University in pursuit of becoming an educator. That career plan was sidetracked in 1976 when upon graduation, despite having a teaching position, instead was offered a position as Department Management Trainee with Stop and Shop Companies.

Eventually he became a store manager of a multi-million dollar store and did that until his young boys turned 4 and 5. He decided to change careers and rejoin the teaching ranks. He spent most of his teaching career as a physical education/health teacher and he coached many different varsity sports, both boys and girls. Baseball and soccer were his most successful sports, yet he also coached basketball, indoor and outdoor track, and softball.

During his teaching career he went back to school and earned a Masters in School Administration. He eventually started a career in administration as a vice principal for 6 years, yet the classroom called. He enjoyed the interactions with students and, especially, coaching.

John retired in 2011 and moved to Murrells Inlet, SC and lives with his partner Pegge, the Secretary of the Pawleys Island Kiwanis Club. John has 3 children and one stepdaughter: Charles, 44, John 43, Allie 33, and Natalie Larson 34. He also has 9 grandchildren. He became a member of the Kiwanis Club Medford (Massachusetts) in 1997, making him a Kiwanian now for over 26 years. Over the years he served as Vice President, President-Elect, President and Secretary of the Kiwanis Club of Medford. Upon moving to Murrells Inlet, he joined The Pawleys Island Kiwanis Club and has served as President. In addition, he served as a Distinguished Lt. Governor of Division 24, a District Trustee, and Chair of the District Education Committee. As Lt. Governor, he helped open the Kiwanis Club of Georgetown.

John lives in Murrells Inlet, SC. He enjoys traveling abroad to different countries, exploring the United States, reading, swimming in the pool, and, especially, working out with KettleBells.
