Past Governor Bill “Cling” Clingenpeel joined Kiwanis in 1978 and has been active on the District level since the mid-eighties. Before becoming District Treasurer in 2004, he served on the Carolinas District Foundation and as the Kiwanis International Foundation Coordinator. He only stepped down as District Treasurer to become District Governor for the 2013-14 year. And even to this day, he stays involved – he is now the President of the Edward R. Murrow Golden K in Greensboro.
The Bill Clingenpeel Club Treasurer Award is given to an outstanding club treasurer. Clubs can nominate an outstanding treasurer, who has served their club in that capacity for a minimum of 3 years, by sending a written explanation to their Lt. Governor (or to the District Secretary, if the division has no Lt. Governor) why they feel the treasurer is deserving of the award. An individual is only eligible to be awarded this recognition once, though they may be nominated more than once if they have not previously been recognized with the award.
Clubs should send to their Lt. Governor substantiating letters from Kiwanis leaders, such as past club presidents, and should also have letters from others in the community who could substantiate the treasurer’s service to the community and to Kiwanis. Lt. Governors are responsible for acquiring nominations from the clubs in their division. The Lt. Governor then selects one out of all the nominations received and sends it to the District Office by November 15 of the next administrative year.
The District Awards Committee then considers all nominees for the award and selects one. The chosen treasurer is usually presented the Bill Clingenpeel Club Treasurer Award at the Mid-Year Conference.
