Tom Dimmock New Club Opener Award

Tom Dimmock served as Governor of the Carolinas District in 1996 and was known throughout Kiwanis International as a club-builder extraordinaire. Tom holds one of the records in the Carolinas for opening the most clubs in one year, opening close to 20 clubs. The only person to beat his record was Past Governor Bill Wirth – and Tom Dimmock was Bill Wirth’s right-hand man, as he served as the District New Club Opening Chair that year. Tom not only opened at least 50 clubs in his lifetime, he always had new member applications in his trunk. One of his famous quotes is “Children didn’t get to choose where they were born. If your town has a school, it deserves to have a service leadership program. And we can build 3 clubs in every town – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner!” And he meant it. At one point his own division had to be divided into three separate divisions because it had grown so large.

The Tom Dimmock New Club Opener Award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves through their efforts to build new Kiwanis clubs in the District.

It is intended that one such individual be recognized annually, and the recipient will be determined by the District Governor in consultation with the Executive Committee.
